My two main ex-detrans sources have both said they're satisfied with the piece, SUCH a relief for (ex) members of a community I know often feels let down or exploited by journos.

I do have a bit more to say about cis journalists who write about detransition, without naming any names.

There were things I learned in the course of reporting this story that I feel were discoverable by journalists who have covered detransition. The 12-step influenced approach to fighting urges to transition and overlap with/funding by anti-trans activists specifically.

These were aspects that, in my opinion, were pretty much out there in the open. If other journalists have missed those angles- and assuming good faith and a desire to do ethical work- it's fair to ask why.

In speaking with Schevers, she said that she'd already begun to question detrans orthodoxy by the time she was interviewed for a second time. I believe it's fair to ask why the interview failed to elicit these doubts, or if it did why it wasn't part of the story that ran.

Well, perhaps because there's no such thing as an "orthodoxy"? Most of the detrans people I've come across on this very website believe detrans people continue to suffer from dysphoria--which is what Shevers believes--but are dealing with it in ways that don't involve transition.

Why should they have to “deal with” wanting to transition? Why not just transition? How do you feel when you hear about people “dealing with” same-sex attraction by trying to repress it?

Detransitioner orthodoxy refers to the reasons one would want to to "deal with" wanting to transition instead of transitioning.

Mmm, detrans people have transitioned and then detransitioned; the reasons as you probably are aware vary widely. I'd say "desister" would *maybe* apply to some people in that position, but again there really isn't an orthodoxy.

You're contradicting what you said earlier, so I'm not sure how to respond.

Maybe by pointing out my supposed contradiction? What I said was, I've observed ppl who have detransitioned (for various reasons, including medical) state on this website that after detransition, they continue to suffer from dysphoria, but learn other ways to deal with it.
