My two main ex-detrans sources have both said they're satisfied with the piece, SUCH a relief for (ex) members of a community I know often feels let down or exploited by journos.

There were things I learned in the course of reporting this story that I feel were discoverable by journalists who have covered detransition. The 12-step influenced approach to fighting urges to transition and overlap with/funding by anti-trans activists specifically.

These were aspects that, in my opinion, were pretty much out there in the open. If other journalists have missed those angles- and assuming good faith and a desire to do ethical work- it's fair to ask why.

In speaking with Schevers, she said that she'd already begun to question detrans orthodoxy by the time she was interviewed for a second time. I believe it's fair to ask why the interview failed to elicit these doubts, or if it did why it wasn't part of the story that ran.

And, I believe the most generous answer to that question is that many of the people who cover detransition have done so with cisgender blinders on. They can't ask about something they haven't even considered might be the case.
