LRT: One of my actually least popular opinions is that there are occasionally good critiques contained in transphobe talking points, and that if they don't succeed in exterminating trans people they will end up strengthening us.

An example of this already happening, I'd argue, is the critique that trans people conform to gender stereotypes. That was never actually true but it became less true and nonconforming trans folk gained more support bc it stung.

None of this is intended as a defense of transphobes or their motives. Their intention is to destroy us & I don't take it as a given that trans people will survive their attacks. But occasionally they do hit our weak spots. A strong community takes those opportunities to evolve.

I kinda wish we managed to discuss the weak spots among ourselves without descending into infighting instead of having to wait for transphobes to point them out, but yeah, point.
