As a trans man who lived as a lesbian for much of my life, I do feel like many TERFs and detransitioners are my responsibility to "come get." That mess is partly my mess. And so, the next question is: What does that look like?
Part is telling the truth about their harm, not going easy on them. I think people misunderstand when I suggest many TERFs are self-hating trans men that I mean it as some sort of excuse. I do not. The way they monsterize trans women in particular is absolutely despicable.
But, another part has to be prevention. Finding the broken parts of some transmascs that lead some of us down that harmful, shitty path and providing healing alternatives.
The US Transgender Survey found 51% of trans men and 58% of AFAB NBs experienced rape. Transphobes exploit that, encouraging victims to channel anger & hatred. But trans men let em do it. We're too afraid of being feminized to organize around services needed by over half of us.
We need to "come get" transmasc victims of rape, bullying, abuse, post-surgery PTSD, and domestic violence before the TERFs and detransitioners can radicalize them.
And- this should go without saying but in case any terves are watching- Of course we need to do this in a way that allows questioning, pausing, or ceasing transition as a perfectly natural, acceptable possibility that doesn't result in a withdrawal of services or support.
