After trying to explain my big upcoming story to my parents I am now starting to appreciate just how difficult simply explaining who "detransitioners" are and what they believe to a lay audience is actually going to be.

You are paraphrasing a conversation, not relaying the exact conversation. No word had to be in quotes. You purposely mocked detransitioners. Nice try.
Right, but that was the exact word I used that my mom misunderstood, hence the quotes. (Seriously, believe what you want, but when I mock someone they stay mocked, I don't go claiming they weren't mocked after the mocking.)

Wait, wait, I just thought of a clearer way to explain: I wasn't explaining to my mom who individual detransitioners were, I was explaining the concept of the word. So, without quotes, there's a possible interpretation that I was giving her people's names. Does this help?
