After trying to explain my big upcoming story to my parents I am now starting to appreciate just how difficult simply explaining who "detransitioners" are and what they believe to a lay audience is actually going to be.

Putting detransitioners in quotation marks tells me exactly what kind of bias you have and how trash this "big upcoming story" is going to be. Tell that to your parents.
Hey, while you're probably not wrong about my story, you're wrong about the quotes! Detransitioners was in quotes in that sentence because that was the word I used in the conversation with my mom. I'm quoting myself, from the conversation where I was telling her the word.
