There's an inherent difficulty in talking about trans men's vulnerability to rape and violence that goes beyond invisibility. The problem is that this vulnerability is intensely feminized. So, to talk about it is to undermine our masculinity and our claim to maleness.
I've been thinking about this a lot as I move forward writing a book on trans male experiences of sexism, and I'm not sure there's an answer besides transforming masculinity itself, making room for male victims who are not feminized. A tall order, but I say: Let's get to work.
Of course, this might have the side effect of making the world a little less harsh for cis male victims of child abuse, rape, incest, and domestic violence. But hey, if we wind up helping some cis men along the way, so be it.
