Seriously, though, there are all sorts of parenting styles that can work and all sorts of styles that can feel oppressive. I just about withered under parenting that was too worry-based and protective, whereas my siblings thrived with it.
In the foster system you learn that even quite bad parents are usually better for their kids than well-meaning strangers. When I call Rodderick an asshole I mean it teasingly, not as part of the pile-on.
