I'll go further and say: You do not understand Rowling and have not adequately profiled her descent into transphobia if you ignore the part of her essay where she says that if she'd been born earlier, she might have transitioned herself.https://twitter.com/e_urq/status/1341404374032105490 …

I think a lot of old school second wave feminists see the increasing numbers of young trans men as non-gender conforming women jumping ship. I think they feel that we may lose the category of women altogether, or it may become something different from what they grew up with. 3/

This is definitely where actual trans-exclusionary-radical-feminism diverges from modern transphobic bigotry. The old school TERF answer would be that the category of woman is not meaningful and should not exist, and trans women are harming the project of destroying it.

When you hear people complaining that trans women are too feminine and reinforce harmful gender roles, that's a daughter of the old school TERF beliefs.

Oh yeah- trans people tend to be less gender conforming, and these are cis people's rules we didn't make them and have little power to change them. To the extent we have power we've pushed to loosen them. That's good enough for me, as a largely gender conforming man.
