I'll go further and say: You do not understand Rowling and have not adequately profiled her descent into transphobia if you ignore the part of her essay where she says that if she'd been born earlier, she might have transitioned herself.https://twitter.com/e_urq/status/1341404374032105490 …

Well, I read this, and I must confess to being disappointed that trans men, and Rowling's specific targeting of trans men in her statement weren't mentioned at all. https://www.thecut.com/article/who-did-j-k-rowling-become.html?utm_source=tw …

The reference to fertility, otoh, creeped me the heck out. People can freeze their eggs. And there is not going to be a shortage of kids who need parents anytime soon. So worries about other people's fertility just end up sounding deeply racist to me. 5/

Please consider being more sensitive (and better informed) regarding adoption. If there were such a surfeit of unpatented children, there would not be a whole industry devoted to finding kids for childless adults. Happy to send you more information on this misunderstood topic.

Don't numerous kids just exist in the foster system without any chance of adoption? As a society, we excel at making an industry to profit off of something that shouldn't be profitable. Look at bottled water.

I'm a foster parent. There's a severe shortage of foster parents. But, fostering is not necessarily a route to adoption, and a good foster parent has to be able to support a child returning to their birth family.

Exactly. And most people want infants, and don't want to adopt from foster care. Hence the corrupt market of international adoption....

The thing that bothers me about this is how many kids sit in foster care knowing no one wants them because they aren’t a baby. I understand the desire for an infant but it’s heartbreaking every year that passes a child in the adoption system knows they are less & less desirable
