I'll go further and say: You do not understand Rowling and have not adequately profiled her descent into transphobia if you ignore the part of her essay where she says that if she'd been born earlier, she might have transitioned herself.https://twitter.com/e_urq/status/1341404374032105490 …

I've heard people say "The first person you come out to is yourself."

Fair point re internal barriers. If that's an issue for her, I hope she finds a comfotable balance. I don't want to re-read that essay: once was enough, but you share my take as well. I saw perhaps two folk I know mention trans men, but major discussions ignored that.

I have noticed this too and I've been interested in it. My daughter recently transitioned and I just can't understand Rowling. Looking back, the signs are all there in the books. All the money and privilege in the world and this is what she's chosen to do.

I'm not the only person to transition later in life. If she truly felt that need, she'd do it (unless there were barriers: barriers that I have a great deal of difficulty imagining would exist for a wealthy person
).
