The frustrating thing about debating trans health care is that transphobes want trans care held to completely different standards than all other medications or procedures. But, they won't come out and say that. They don't even acknowledge it to themselves.https://twitter.com/chasestrangio/status/1334153490873147396 …

You end up having these ridiculous arguments. "Someone might regret trying this treatment!" "This treatment won't work for 100% of patients!" Yeah? And? If you take out the hysteria over gender it's just nothing.

My gender dysphoria was misgiagnosed as a mood disorder when I was a teen, so I'm intimately acquainted with the usual procedures for medicating teens. I had permanent changes to my metabolism, temporary changes to my ability to focus in school, and the treatment didn't work.

My docs did their best. I wish I could go back in time and take blockers -> testosterone instead, but that's how treatment shakes out sometimes. Diagnosis isn't 100%. Neither is treatment. Docs make their best guess, and adjust if the patient doesn't respond well.

What the "debate" over trans health care presupposes is that in order for it to be good medicine every diagnosis must be 100% correct, no side effects be experienced, and no patient ever regret starting treatment. It's crazy. It's simply not how medicine works.
