      For the past few weeks I've been looking into the changing use of the word boi. I was curious why a queer identity term kept showing up in Twitch chat.       I think what you're getting at is the AAVE pronounciation of boi, which you're right to think is the original use, never went away. The online written-only use was what I wrote about, and how it's evolved. But you're not wrong to highlight the continuity and consistency there.
