Every 7 years there's a big article in a major outlet rediscovering the total lack of evidence that weight loss improves health outcomes or scientifically sound way of bringing about long term weight loss, and then everyone forgets and goes about their business.

(Of course, there's nothing wrong with losing weight for vanity reasons, if that's what you want. I want to lose weight for vanity reasons myself! But if you mention health in the same conversation I'll lose a bit of respect.)
