Early transition is an inherently awkward time. Start with the stress of classic adolescent identity formation (trying to figure out who you are and what style works for you) and add transphobia and dysphoria.

People react differently to transphobia. Some are rebellious and reject gender norms, some try extra hard to conform. Trans guys trying to socialize themselves into masculinity underlines what's messed up about masculinity, not what's messed up about trans guys.
