My name is Evan Urquhart. I've written about the science of trans issues including trans youth, and Jesse explicitly said trans journalists aren't qualified. Where's the concern about free speech over Jesse's sliming all trans people behind our backs to elites in the profession?

When is your sanctimony about free speech and illiberalism going to reckon with the people like me, who may never climb another a rung on the ladder because of elite, connected people like Jesse telling editors that our gender identity is disqualifying?

wow that sounds like an insanely bigoted thing to say -- can you point me to where i said it?

Full quote is too long for twitter. A fair paraphrase would be: Transgender people are subject to groupthink. They're the right people to hire to talk about how hard it is not to be able to go into bathrooms but not to write about the science like [I, Jesse Singal] do.

I said that all groups are susceptible to groupthink and that on the specific question of desistance, there was some of it in the trans community. In the same paragraph, if memory serves, I gave an example of a similar issue with my own group, American Jews. Of course American

I've written about desistence, Jesse. I interviewed Steensma and all the usual suspects just like you did. I will put my work up against yours any day of the week and defy anyone to say mine is more biased.

Jesse agreed with my characterization. To the extent anyone is lying- and I woudln't call this a lie- it's him when he acts like he said there was "some" groupthink. Our man didn't say some, at the time. He may feel like some is more correct (it is), but he didn't say it then.

the idea that you could reduce this to a general distrust of trans people, rather than an explanation for how on very specific issues i didn't find "listen to trans people" to be the right system.... it's disingenuouspic.twitter.com/0z4PvytZM3

I mean, heck, dude, I think it's disingenuous to pretend that having a negative reaction to someone's work is unfair and out of bounds in a liberal democracy but we're back to free speech, right? What's different about your speech re trans people and their speech re you?

You're saying the tactic is unfair and we're saying it back. What authority, other than public opinion, could we use to judge? And if we use public opinion, isn't that the same thing we're not allowed to do lest it destroy liberalism?
