This is for something I'm trying to write, please help! Is a landline phone furniture or an appliance?

My editor called it a "device" but I still think it's furniture

A stationary or affixed electronic device is only furniture if it's big enough for a cat to sit on. For very large sizes of landline phone, for very small sizes of cat, phones are furniture.

How about the one I grew up with that was affixed to the wall- surely if it's affixed to the wall it must be furniture?

It would be a furnishing, then, but furniture?
How far up the wall was it? Something a cat can jump up onto and sit on?

I'm willing to compromise on furnishing. A very small cat might be able to balance on it while jumping from one thing to the next, I'd say?
