There is truth to this, but I also think that one reason some people, e.g. the Harper's petition, are more vocally concerned about debate-stifling "from the left" is because everyone who could be persuaded by a Harper's petition already agrees that right-wing harrassment is bad

I'd put it a little differently. They think right-wing harassment, which doesn't target them, can never change and its targets should accept it without complaint, but left-wing harassment, which they happen to be targets of, is destroying the foundation of our democracy.

I was once "constructively dismissed" (i.e. not actually fired but they were clearly pushing me out) from a tech contract gig because someone overheard me saying "Yeah, I agree with you that racism is bad" to a cow orker.
