My conservative friends are mainstream Democrats. I also have far-right people who I'm friendly with, but I don't actually need them to know people with a vast diversity of views on the important issues of the day.
The GOP is such a tiny, cramped corner of political thought. Might as well say if you don't have anarchist friends you don't have an ideologically diverse friend group.
the constant special pleading on behalf of US style conservatism gets so tiresome Americans seem to be taught this cultish worship of their current political system such that many literally can't conceive of an alternative, and they export that exceedingly narrow vision...
so I've seen Canadians parrot bromides about "bipartisanship" even though Canada doesn't have a 2-party system, and needing to make room for "conservatism" even though US style conservatism is promoted here by Americans with US money, it isn't some kind of universal phenomenon
