Your opponents aren't as hateful as you think. They don't dislike you as much as you think. They're not as extreme as you think. We're in the midst of the Great Misjudgment, and it's tearing America apart:https://frenchpress.thedispatch.com/p/im-not-hateful-you-are …

I don't think you hate me, David. I just think if you had your way you'd make my medical treatment illegal, have the state dictate the clothing I wear and the bathrooms I use, and perhaps confine me in a mental institution with great seriousness, love, and care.

i think this is the most cogent point - whether or not it comes from a place of hate, one side champions a variety of policies that do concrete harm to marginalized people. why would those people decide to be nice and extend more respect to the people trying to hurt them?

setting aside the actual policies people are siding themselves with to do yet another sleepy "both sides are bad, both sides are mad" post demonstrates a lack of either critical thinking or good faith

I assume David is coming from a place of good faith, but the outcome he wants (whether he admits it or not) is for privileged people to stop feeling that discriminatory policies are a result of hate so that they stop being outraged by them, making them easier to enact.
