      @e_urq Really enjoyed your latest piece on Slate. I think everybody who is confused on this topic should try listening to the people involved instead of just guessing and confabulating explanations. I admit that a decade ago, I fully didn't understand. All it took was listening.

      I can't understand the impulse to "hold forth" on a topic one doesn't know anything about first hand without listening to people who know. It was impossible for me not to find empathy & understanding once I heard from people themselves. That's probably true of lots of things.
