The flier gives us some indication of what the study is going to be. As with her earlier paper, this is an online survey. Qualifying subjects must have identified as transgender for 6 months or more and stopped identifying that way 6 or more months ago. 2/

Littman says she will explore, specifically: 1. Factors that may or may not be related to the development of and desistance from transgender identification 2. Whether or not individuals experienced changes in their sexual orientation during or after transition 3/

3. What kinds of counseling and informed consent were received by those detransitioners who sought medical care to transition. 2 seems weird, and all three are troubling. I’ll tell you why. 4/

First, let me say that I think there should be more studies of detransitioners. I have doubts on Littman’s legitimacy as a researcher, but I’d prefer this be a good study, rather than it be bad so I can dump all over it later.
@LisaLittman1, if you’re listening, let me help! 5/1 reply 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -
Littman claims she’s interested in consent and counseling, as well as factors relating to the development of transgender identity. But she’s ONLY talking to desisters and detransitioners???? Not seeking... er... any sort of non detrans control group? 6/

This is troubling bc the mainstream hypothesis about detransitioners is this: Detransitioners are a very small percentage of ppl who transition, and tend to have unusually bad experiences w/ the medical community, and mental health challenges beyond the norm for trans ppl. 7/

In other words, if Littman just goes and collects a bunch of horror stories about being transed by a bunch of GC-influenced detransitioners, the obvious criticism will be: detransitioners have unusually bad experiences with medical personnel compared to most who transition. 8/

Whereas, if she compares detrans experiences with actual trans people, she could add useful info on whether and how these populations are different. Not perfect info, but a promising early study that might help correct whatever is going wrong for detransitioners. 9/

I suspect she’ll portray the worst 1% of experiences as typical of detrans and trans alike... but she could forestall such critiques by looking at differences btw detrans/trans experiences. Maybe she’d prove the mainstream wrong! That’s why actual science beats propaganda. /End
