@DanGreen4114 Hi Daniel. Please correct this immediately. At no point in the article or headline was anyone misgendered. The original headline was something like "When Your Daughter Says She's Trans," referring not to any specific individual, but to a hypothetical situation.pic.twitter.com/1KAJo8EGji

How do you figure this isn’t broadly misgendering trans men? I certainly feel it includes me- as a person who was once considered someone’s daughter, with parents who sometimes read the Atlantic and could nod and think “yes, this happened to us.”

It is not misgendering because a child saying they are trans and them actually being trans are not the same thing. Determining whether or not your child is trans, and thus whether social transitioning is appropriate, is something that should be done with the help of a therapist.

It is misgendering bc it applies equally to sons who are trans with transphobic parents who disbelieve them and, in fact, pretty clearly normalizes and encourages disbelieving their sons.

      Replying to @e_urq @SethNolan17 and

“When your child says they’re trans” would be a neutral headline that left open either possibility. This headline takes a position, against trans sons.

I believe you only feel that way because you imagine the people reading the article are looking for reasons to disbelieve their children. I'd invite you to imagine a parent that actually cares for their child, and wants to research what's best. 1/2

If they found Jesse's article, they would then read its contents, and find the modern advice on helping trans children. Advice like consulting with a therapist to pick a course of action. 2/2
