Not sure how it is for afab people, but for my amab self, I was encouraged to be gay or gender-nonconforming rather than transitions. Transitioning seem to be the last resort in other's eyes, probably because it would be the biggest adjustment for them
Exactly- transitioning is seen as extreme and they try to bargain you into a compromise of being a lesbian.

I really think this "pushing kids to be trans" thing people talk about is a myth (with maybe an ultra-rare exception here and there). Encouraging kids to explore their gender identity maybe happens in progressive areas, but it's a huge stretch to equate the one with the other!
