I will say, when I was on the receiving end of widespread twitter hate in the great “Hillary Clinton looks like a lesbian” debacle of 2015, it wasn’t that bad and I mostly wish it had happened more bc then I’d be a much more famous and successful writer than I am.

My critics were dumb & had either not read the piece, not understood it, or were pretending not to in order not to be left out. I’d likely feel worse if I’d been twitter-ganged-up-on for my actual mistakes. (Luckily those were never caught and remain private embarrassments.)
