On a certain level I don’t exactly believe in free will, since there’s no scientific basis for it, or even for thinking that what we call time flows forward rather than that being a quirk of whatever gives us our perceptive framework.
And yet, it’s hard to make sense of a life like mine without falling back on a concept of agency. Hugely changing economic circumstances, career paths, relationships, changing coasts, even changing genders. It’s hard not to feel these swings were a result of, well, choices.
Anyway. It’s been a decent year for me, personally, mostly bc of a group of people I call family. No guarantee next year won’t be a total disaster, but I’ll still be here at the end of it. Unless, of course, I’m not. Good luck, everyone.
