Well, it happened. I was referred to as she by my mother. I was irritated in the moment, obviously, but I'm not sure whether to settle on unhappy it happened at all or happy bc the first instance was three full days into the visit.

They're doing their best. Pronouns wear a very strong groove in people's minds after 38 yrs, and I'm mindful of all I have to be grateful for in the familial department.

my mom slips up here and there but she's immensely supportive. my dad misgendered me left and right.

Last year at Thanksgiving my mom seemed to have intentionally decided to stop trying and misgendered me consistently for the entire visit, so I was just a bit on edge when she slipped that first time. But, she seems to be trying her best.

My bestie of 25 yrs came out as nonbinary a few years ago. We don't see each other in person v often now (3k miles away), but I'm v supportive of them. I probably slip up at least 1x/year by calling them "she". Not intentional. Habit. Progress is imperfect. I always apologize.
