Saw CATS today. It's not good, but it's also clear that most of the reviews are being written by people who would be equally horrified by the original musical.

4. Taylor Swift's introduction of Macavity had some fun fireworks effects, and Swift is fine. This number is better in the original, but perfectly fine here.

3. The Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer number is legitimately good. A bunch of cats playing with humorously large jewelry props. However, it loses points for having poor dancing compared to the original. This goes for the whole show- the dancing's just not where it should be.

2. Skimbleshanks (the railway cat)'s number is, in my opinion, legitimately better than the original. Using tap dancing to mimic the sound of a train was a great choice. Tap isn't used anywhere else. This number is the only exception to the bad dancing rule.

1. Jennyanydots is a must see. So-bad-its-transcendent. Dancing roaches w/ people faces being eaten by a sadistic reimagining of Jenny. I won't say better or worse than the original- it's emphatically it's own thing & should be watched by everyone once clips make their way online

As for the rest of the movie: If you've never seen CATS and want something incredibly weird, sometimes amazing, cringingly sincere, oddly sexual, a real "how did this get made" wonder of the world- see the movie based on the Broadway show. It's less boring, with better dancing.
