Open letter in which a neuroscientist resigning from a journal over a controversial paper calls these beliefs... -there's a lack of evidence to support the brainsex account of gender dysphoria -permanent interventions should be pursued with caution ..."blatantly tranpshobic"pic.twitter.com/G5jF35wjk5

I don’t know where you’re getting that? The primary issue the letter writer raises seems to be that the paper failed to cite any of the evidence that affirmation is effective, or any of the evidence that the preferred method has been tried and found ineffective.

Obviously I’m somewhat biased towards believing the letter writer on that point, and it wouldn’t hurt to review the evidence independently rather than taking their word for it, but I think you misunderstood/misread what the transphobic content was supposed to be.

not making any claims about the rest of it, just the sentence with "blatantly transphobic" in it. for all i know the paper's a mess

Right- I don’t think blatantly transphobic primarily referred to what you thought it did. To my knowledge the “brain sex theory” isn’t currently used by practitioners. So it’s prejudice to blindly believe it’s the basis of clinicians’ work without finding out whether it’s true.

The “brain sex” theory has certainly been discussed- especially in the press- but it doesn’t form the basis of any interventions, does it? (You’d know as well as I do, since we’ve interviewed similar medical sources in this world.)

I think it depends a lot on the clinician but yes, it definitely has purchase among *some*. All's I'm saying is that it doesn't seem that ambiguous to me what he's calling transphobic.pic.twitter.com/xCcO1UZThm
