Is it "Both sides, left and right, do it. We're all human and we all make mistakes"? Or "Conservatives are counter-cultural, so we're forced to flirt with the edges of respectability in a way that libs do not"? Or even "When you're in a foxhole together, you don't scrutinize"?
I think they see the right allying with racists in the same way I see certain Democrats relationship with finance or insurance companies. (Or how those Dems see alliances with socialists.) Distasteful, but pales in comparison to the depth of evil of the other side.
At the end of the day, extreme racism in their party is a distasteful fact of life that can’t be allowed to divide them, and it’s growth is a problem for another day.
