Ppl differ in their ability to recognize their gender dysphoria. Pre-transition I had depression, anxiety & anorexia/bulimia so severe as to require multiple failed treatments, a couple of them inpatient. Now, with the benefit of hindsight, taking into account how severe my symptoms were before I began wearing men's clothes and how much more room there was for them improve after transition, I would say my dysphoria was pretty severe.

I no longer experience daily gender dysphoria at all, but when it does come up I recognize it in a way I never could have done at the time. All I had were symptoms and the evidence of what relieved them (men's clothing, testosterone) and what didn't (therapy, ED treatment, meds).
