He's like: "Look here. When I was president, I had to spend time with wealthy donors in order to enact my historic health care legislation. It was part of serving my country in it's highest office. Then, after my presidency, I realized I just really missed those guys."

I find this fantasy, where Barack Obama just loves donor dinners that much, more plausible than the probable, dreary reality, which is: Barack Obama thinks he's helping us by telling wealthy donors Dems shouldn't try anything to reduce inequality or help poor folks.

And even that- that Obama thinks he's helping- is an extremely kind way of seeing this. A person who liked Obama less than I do might think he's still desperate to have and exert political power, for its own sake, and is flattering donors as a means to that end.

I'm old enough to remember when Obama's transformative method of fundraising small amounts from ordinary people was going to usher in a systemic change in who politicians were accountable to.
