By the time my kids come to me, they've absorbed years of messages from peers, family, and all of society that they are bad and wrong. They may have been abused to try and make them conform to their birth assigned sex.

We give our kids one message- consistent support. We affirm people of all genders and expressions. They can present completely as their birth sex one day, as the opposite sex the next, and in between on the third. We love them as they are, no expectations or demands.

Above all we don't demand that they "pick" a gender and stick with it, that they have a binary gender, or that their expression match the gender they say they feel inside.

Conservatives are only just starting to say it: They think accepting gender nonconforming kids and loving them as they are is abuse. It will get louder and angrier and more insistent, and the laws may change to support them. And innocent kids will be terribly, irrevocably hurt.

We need the law on our side, supporting queer foster youth. We need to be able to offer social transition if kid A needs it to stop running away. We need to be able to offer puberty blockers, if kid B's gender dysphoria interferes with their ability to shower or go to school.

only thing i know about this case, and PLEASE correct me if im wrong: *someone* wanted to put that kid on meds to stop puberty at NINE years old..is that right? or even legal? PLEASE tell me that's a far right bs artist,trying to scare folks..

It’s a pure lie from the father and right wing media. There’s no doctor in the world who puts trans kids on any kind of meds at 9, this kid isn’t on any meds, and no one is trying to put her on meds. The dad forcibly cuts her hair short & puts her in boys clothing, though.
