Whitney Houston having been secretly gay is a real weird one for me. Her first album was the first I ever owned (on cassette tape), in 1985, when I was in Kindergarten- a Christmas gift. My experience of forced, default cis/heterosexuality WAS exemplified by that album.
It doesn't feel like "Yay! Whitney Houston was on our team!" It's like- I was forced into being something based on lies, and she was one the earliest, biggest liar. Which is, I'm aware, unfair. But for kindergarten me she wasn't a straight woman, she represented STRAIGHTNESS.
