Why would you assume there's just one way for a person to become trans? My belief is: People are individuals who should be allowed to them speak for themselves and be in charge of their own lives. There's no benefit in forcing simplistic explanations on complex phenomena.

I did not give numbers. I did however give a source who may have more concrete evidence. (
