I said other- I’d be willing to use another term, but not “gender critical” bc it is misleading and inaccurate. TERF is somewhat inaccurate as well, bc the current era TERFs aren’t necessarily even feminists, but more accurate than gender-critical.

Any useful term would have to include some sense of anti-trans, trans-hating, trans-voice-silencing, trans-opposing, trans-harassing, trans-rights-opposing or something in that realm.

I'd honestly rather ppl used GC for folks that aren't TERFs in any meaningful sense. It also helpfully mirrors the ties with the connections (like Posie) to the broader international "anti gender" movement which has repeatedly infiltrated GC. https://www.rowmaninternational.com/book/antigender_campaigns_in_europe/3-156-7734fc12-00e3-47fc-8478-05897740ac19 …

No feminist on earth is uncritical of the violence embedded in gender as a system, it's why feminists developed gender analysis, so "gender critical" is kind of a non starter as a distinguisher. But there's a particular version of "anti Gender" that's been identified by feminists

Not least I think it's important that we don't fall for the bait and scapegoat feminism when a lot of the anti gender movement (by far the majority of it) is well funded right wing stuff nothing to do with feminism radical or otherwise.

Anti-gender could be a useful compromise, although anti-transgender will always be more accurate. Anti-gender-identity might work, or AGI for short.

That's the thing with the "anti gender" movement more broadly - trans people are the most extreme example drawn on as proof that feminism has gone too far suggesting there's little difference between sexes & folks can just change at will. But theyre also anti lgb and anti abortion

You can see this in neo Nazi terrorists (like the guy in Halle Germany and the other in Canada), far right mobs railing against gender theory in Poland and Columbia. It's kinda all connected to the idea folks lives should be determined by reproductive capacity, etc.

It's much more obvious away from the GC movement because the GC movement presents itself as a struggle for women's rights, but even there there are academics talking about a "Rainbow Reich" (LGBT 'totalitarianism' is a big talking point in anti gender) and so on.

Anyway, sorry
@ChloeReading, I'm sidetracking a lot I just wanted to explain my history with TERF and put the case against people applying it generally to transphobes blanketly.2 replies 0 retweets 1 like
It’s complicated tho bc the intellectual history/intellectual cover runs right through rad feminism. Rad feminism is why conservatives will say trans people reinforce gender norms and just be a masculine woman from one side of their mouth while mocking masc women w the other.
