As someone who was around since the mid-2000s and kept commenting (though more infrequently over the years), I just want to put in my $0.02 here: Kinja still sucks, and it has never not sucked.
Is there a good comment platform? Slate has Livefyre and no one likes them either, believe me. Some people seem to say good things about Disqus, I guess.

I felt like the pre-kinja one wasn't terrible, but it's basically unusable now at almost all times on my phone browser and has been for a while, which is unfortunate since that's how I did most of my reading over the past 5 years.

Exactly this basically ruined Deadspin for me a long time ago b4 its actual demise this week. I was there for the amazingly bright, insightful, funny & punny commenter community but good luck ever getting Kinja to authenticate via Twitter on an iOS device over the X years
