A dozen armed cops arrest a young black man for fare evasion, terrifying everyone in the entire train car, and all I can think is how would they have even *known*? What a bizarre flex of police authority over a $2.75 fare in offense with a hundred-dollar fine.
Someone should run the numbers, but I'd swear they're losing more paying all those police than they're recouping on fares.
That service is provided by the NYPD, so the MTA doesn't really pay for it afaik.
It's all ultimately coming from/going into the city budget though, right?
