The research field is young, but what evidence there is suggests stated gender identity is relatively stable. There is also very clear research that affirming a child's gender identity leads to dramatically better outcomes than the opposite. People feel there *should* be a treatment that turns trans people cis. But an objective look at the evidence shows the only treatments that work are ones that support transition. It makes no sense to deny patients treatments that work bc you feel they shouldn't.
