It's an extremely common experience for trans women to transition and then to their shock discover that they, all of a sudden, are terrible at their jobs. At my last gig, I went from golden child to screwup almost immediately after i transitioned. https://twitter.com/razorfemme/status/1172548559658336256 …

Is that a result of other's perception or was there an actual change in your skillset?

Are you asking if I suddenly forgot how to be a writer?

I genuinely worried that testosterone might degrade my writing. But even if that wasn’t total paranoia a) estrogen would tend improve writing not the other way around and b) it would be a slow, subtle process taking years- and be impossible to prove in any individual case.

Bc there are studies suggesting male T levels are associated with poorer language skills.https://slate.com/human-interest/2016/08/does-testosterone-therapy-affect-the-brain.html …

You also gotta wonder how much of that is strictly T and how much of that has to do with cis guys being socialized in a way that de-emphasizes solving problems with words

Sure, but the article I posted (and wrote) talked about a study of trans guys that seemed to show a loss of grey matter in areas of the brain associated with language after starting T.

I should add that I am not an alarmist on this, at all. It was one small study, and it's important not to over-conclude. But, it is very possible testosterone levels have a small negative impact on language skills, given what we currently know.
