I wish there really were algorithms that help you discover books and movies you'd like, instead of glorified ad-generators that roughly approximated your taste in genres. I just read Samuel Delaney for the 1st time, and he's incredible- wish I'd found his work ages ago.
If you like your classic sci fi on the very literary side, work by black authors, and work by gay men with queer themes you might like: Samuel Delaney.
I strongly recommend Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand. But, be warned, the planned second book was never written, in part bc of the AIDS crisis changing the author’s ability to write joyfully about certain kinds of sex.
I am extremely not surprised to find he’s delightful. I’ve read enough classic sci fi to consider myself reasonably acquainted with the genre, but to my disappointment (though not exactly surprise) I didn’t come across Delaney until just recently.
