If it's coming from AMAB trans people: The relationship between prettiness and womanhood is such that old, ugly, or fat women are seen as not fully women even when they're cis. So, there's a logic to a trans women feeling like she can't be a real woman if she can't be pretty.
If it's coming from trans men/transmascs I'm less sure, except that pretty AFABs spend their whole life being praised and valued for their appearance, so maybe it's a feeling that this is all they have and without it they'll have nothing.
