If the NYT headlines are along the lines of "Biden's Charge of Racism Fails to Land in Debate" and the op-eds are all "Can the de-normalization of Trump succeed?" then that completely undermines the simple, moral case against Trumpism.
I've been turning this thread over in my mind, and what once seemed really smart and true seems less so when I combine it with what I know about how the media has covered Trump.https://twitter.com/timjacobwise/status/1152930670093787141 …

This is probably obvious to everyone, but he's the next step I got, which is that what would shift that dynamic would be mass protests.

So yeah, this is my guess: If there are mass protests against detention centers (or something similar) taking a moral stand against Trumpism, and if the Democratic candidate makes common cause with them, the media narrative will shift enough for the Dem to win on those grounds.

But, if there aren't mass protests changing the "optics" of a Democratic nominee making a moral case against Trump, then that case will not succeed bc it will be fatally undermined by the both-sidesing of the media.
