But your initial remark that trans men and AFAB NB folks don't have similar needs to cis women is pretty off the mark. Many of them do.

How many, and for how long? Your experience of having periods to the contrary, it’s rare.

The fact that I have periods has nothing to do with my gynecological needs, though. Most cis women's only interaction with a gynecologist is for annual exams, which trans men should be having anyway, regardless of sexual preference.

And for those who are bi or gay, which I've seen posited as roughly 60% of the trans male population, they should be seeing someone about birth control options.

I don’t disagree but I’m a bit on edge at what feels like an implication that straight trans men’s needs should be less visible or less respected or less important for education bc we’re a smaller number. Maybe that’s not what you meant.

That's not what I'm saying at all. Most doctors seem barely aware that gay/bi trans men exist, despite them actually being at least half the population. And those men have virtually the same needs as straight trans men, medically.

I don't really understand the problem with treating all trans men as someone who potentially might be having sex with cis men. It would likely improve health outcomes across the board.

I guess I'm not sure what you're wanting to see from the medical community, other than more education?

More education about differences between trans men's health needs and those of cis women, yeah, that's all. I don't see the problem with treating literally everyone as someone who might potentially have sex with cis men/penis havers, so not sure what your point is.

What I want from the trans community is not to be satisfied with easy superficial gestures towards inclusivity. Some folks may be comfortable being treated as basically a cis woman with a different pronoun, but I think doctors could do way better in terms of depth of knowledge.
