What I don't understand about detransitioners is... why would anyone listen to them or take anything they say seriously? By their own admission they were stunningly wrong about themselves and made terrible decisions.

I'm not sure I'm all that comfortable with the shaming of detransitioners, to be honest. Sometimes people do in fact make mistakes, and I think that all the fuss about it when it happens actually gives people considering transition more pause.
I have tons of empathy for them as individuals, I just don't think anyone should listen to their ideas or take them seriously.

That's probably true. I do always feel sorry for them - I suspect they're the type of personality that is easily influenced, which is rarely a good thing.
