Trans people stuck up for her bc, basically, we don’t think people should be bullied for looking too masculine or too feminine. But letting Semenya compete with other cis women without being forced to suppress her natural testosterone isn’t directly relevant to trans athletes.
All that being said, the Olympics allows trans women to compete with other women after being on hormones for long enough, with a testing regimen, bc research shows trans women don’t have an advantage after they’ve been on hormones long enough to lose muscle mass.
This has been the case since 2004. So far the only transgender Olympian has been a trans man, who competed against men. Trans women haven’t dominated the women’s competition in the past 15 yrs, but if they suddenly did I’m sure the guidelines would be reconsidered.
