I don't disagree BUT honestly how would you fight someone like Cersei or any of the Lannisters? It isn't the modern world. The rules are different and the only way he could have forced change was to be smarter and MORE ruthless.

A person willing to torture Cersei Lannister for religious infractions to gain power is a person willing torture anyone and everyone else on religious pretexts to maintain and exert the power they've gained.
