How old is your foster child? How serious is your foster child about becoming a cop? Maybe you won't have to do much to steer him away from this idea.
He recently turned 18, and I wouldn't say he's very serious but he's not sure what to do and at a time when he's going to feel a lot of pressure to pick something.

18 & under pressure to pick something, I can see why you're concerned. I believe in resist-persist so be open, let him tell you why he's considering becoming a cop. Before you have that conversation, do some research. Find out statistics about working for the police department.
