Ah yes, 2016, when Bernie Sanders ran as a third party candidate and split the vote against Trump.https://twitter.com/page88/status/1089200254757548033 …
I understand that emotions are running high around politics. People are angry and people are scared. That’s why it’s so important to ground yourself. I ground myself on two fronts:

1. I will not be told that things I remember happening and followed closely at the time happened differently than I remember them. Bernie Sanders endorsed Hillary Clinton and told his supporters to vote for her. https://www.cnn.com/2016/07/11/politics/hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders/index.html …

2. I will not accept any version of events where Trump’s popularity and election came out of nowhere. Forces that already existed in our country, not Russia, led to xenophobia, insecurity, disillusionment, disenfranchisement, instability, anger, and fear, which led to Trump.

If we elect a generic Democrat in 2020 it won’t return things to normal. It will return things to sliding-towards-collapse from decades of Republican and Democratic cooperation on hollowing labor protections, enabling monopolies, and selling government functions.

This doesn’t mean I won’t vote for a Democrat! I will, and you should too. But electing a Democratic President gives us an opportunity to reverse course in time to avoid authoritarianism and/or collapse. It will not ensure that we have avoided these.
