FWIW an editor sounded very receptive to running a LtE, and I've submitted one. But just wanna go on record as saying I asked for a correction and that in an ideal world, an error of this magnitude would elicit one. In the real world full-blown corrections are an uphill battlehttps://twitter.com/mattdiamond/status/1066460899546939393 …

Your language in the piece should have been a lot clearer if you meant to say that IC for adults was a positive advance. Sometimes when your main concern is your own objectivity the unintentional result is sounding like you’re counseling others to be skeptical.

Your own biases are clear enough to others even though, obviously, you don’t see them yourself. You’d really free yourself if you didn’t try for an objective tone, and it would be more honest for your readers.

Yes Jesse, that’s the passage I was referring to.

I'm confused by your argument. I lay out how trans people have been denied access to care and explain how informed consent is a (partial) solution to that history. Your argument is what, that I'm lying about my *real* stance?

No no. My argument isn’t that you have a secret “real” stance! It’s that you’re not aware of how you come across.

Okay, so I "come across" as having opinions 180 degrees opposed to the opinions I express explicitly... What can I do to clear this up? Do you feel your writing is judged by a standard where people read you saying X and subsequently claim you said not-X?

But I think- and I might be wrong- that your overriding goal there was to be seen as being fair and neutral to the arguments of trans advocates, and that unintentionally you ended up signaling that readers should view their claims with skepticism.

Whereas if your goal had been to clearly indicate that what’s good for trans adults might not work as well for gnc youth (which I agree with), the passage could have been more clearly written so that readers understood you as saying that.
